Changes to the URL in particular, or completely deleting a page, can impact internal links, search engines, external backlinks, and the navigation of your website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this guide, we will show you how to edit existing WordPress pages, use quick edit, move pages to the trash, and restore accidentally deleted pages. Existing internal links, external links, search engine entries, and saved bookmarks may continue to point to the previous address.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When is it a good idea to change the slug?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A change may be useful, for example, if:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>the original slug contains a typo<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the page was originally published under an inappropriate URL<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the site&#x27;s theme has changed fundamentally<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a website&#x27;s structure is revised in a controlled manner<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For a new page that has not been published yet, you can correct the slug much more easily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What will happen to the previous URL?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the URL of a published page changes, you should check what happens when the old address is accessed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the same content has merely been moved to a new address, a permanent redirect from the old to the new URL is often advisable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whether your SEO plugin or another system automatically creates such a redirect depends on your configuration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Therefore, do not rely on this, but test the old URL after the change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Update internal links after a URL change<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If other pages or posts on your website still point to the old address, you should update these internal links to the current URL whenever possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While a redirect can ensure that visitors still arrive at the right destination, a direct internal link to the current address is cleaner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We explain how permalinks work in principle at <a href=\"\/en\/help\/wordpress\/wordpress-permalink-settings\/\">Configure permalink settings in WordPress<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Change parent page retroactively<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">WordPress pages can be structured hierarchically. class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For an already published website, you should therefore always check the URL after changing the page hierarchy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Do not confuse menu and page hierarchy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The parent-child structure of WordPress pages and your website's navigation are two different things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Submitting one page under another does not automatically mean it will appear at the corresponding place in the main menu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p an existing page<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Depending on the theme, a WordPress site can use different templates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another template can affect, for example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Content width<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Page function differently than with classic themes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Change the featured image of a page<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The featured image assigned to a page can also be changed at any time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Replace featured image<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open the desired page.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Open page settings.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Search the area <strong>Featured image<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Replace the existing image.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select a file from the media library or upload a new the theme or template being used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Do not automatically delete old image from media library<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When you replace an image on a page, you should not automatically remove the previous file from the WordPress Media Library.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The same file might also be used on other pages, in posts, galleries, or templates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Therefore, check whether a media file is actually no longer needed before finally deleting it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-heading\">Change author of a page<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Depending on user permissions, you can assign an existing page to a different WordPress user as the author.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This can be useful, for example, on websites with multiple editors or administrators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Which users are class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Title<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Slug<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Date<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Author<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>parent page<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Order<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Status<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Template<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Which options actually appear depends on your WordPress configuration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When is express processing useful?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Quick Edit is suitable for minor changes to the page edited together depends on WordPress and the respective configuration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Search pages<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A large website can have a very high number of pages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can search for a specific page title or term using the search function in the site overview.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That&#x27;s usually faster than manually scrolling through several pages of the overview.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What are revisions?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">WordPress can store different revision states of a page as <strong>Revisions<\/strong> save.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This allows you to compare changes between different versions and, if necessary, restore an earlier state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Revisions are helpful, for example, when:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a section of text was accidentally deleted<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>an extensive change is to be undone<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>several people worked on one side<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>you need an older version of the content<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Restore previous revision of a page<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If there are revisions for a page, you can open the revision view and compare different versions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Restore revision<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open the relevant To restore a damaged or deleted website, you need a proper backup.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Revert published page to draft<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p
