Here, among other things, you can review incoming messages, manage the spam quarantine, track the history of individual emails, allow or block senders, and manage various filter settings.

Which areas and functions are displayed depends on the SpamExperts services set up for your domain and your permissions.

In this overview, we show you the most important areas of the SpamExperts Control Panel and explain which function you need for which task.

Briefly explained: You do not need to know every function of the SpamExperts dashboard. For daily work, especially Log Search, Spam Quarantine, Sender Allow List, Sender Block List and the Filter Settings Important.

Open SpamExperts Dashboard

In CURIAWEB, you open your SpamExperts service via the customer center.

After logging in, you select the corresponding SpamExperts service and open the management. Then you will be directed to the SpamExperts Control Panel.

You can find the exact procedure at Login to the SpamExperts Dashboard via the CURIAWEB Customer Center.

Always check the correct domain before making changes

If you manage multiple domains or SpamExperts services, you should check which context you are currently in before making any changes.

This is especially true for changes to:

Filter settings

Allow Lists

Block Lists

Quarantine settings

Protection Reports

Outgoing Filtering

Important: Do not make any filter changes unless it is clearly established that you have opened the correct domain or the correct SpamExperts service.

differentiate between incoming and outgoing

One of the most important distinctions in the SpamExperts Control Panel concerns Incoming and Outgoing.

Area

Task

Incoming Filtering

Filtering and control of incoming emails

Outgoing Filtering

Outbound email filtering and control

With incoming filtering, the message path looks like this in simplified terms:

External sender
       ↓
SpamExperts
       ↓
Filtering
       ↓
Your mail server
       ↓
Mailbox

With outgoing filtering, the path goes in the other direction:

Email client / application
          ↓
SpamExperts
          ↓
Receiving mail server

We explain the basics at What is SpamExperts and how does the spam filter work?.

Incoming Filtering

The area Incoming contains the functions for incoming messages.

Depending on your configuration and permissions, here you will find tools for:

Search for news

Quarantine review

Management of allowed and blocked senders

Configuration of filter behavior

Management of target mail servers

Report generation

If you mainly use SpamExperts to protect your mailboxes from incoming spam, you will handle most of your daily tasks in this area.

Log Search – the most important area for delivery problems

The Log Search is among the most important diagnostic tools of SpamExperts.

If a specific email has not arrived, this is usually the first place you should check.

You can search for a message using various information, such as:

Sender

Recipient

Period

Message status

This allows you to track whether SpamExperts has seen a message and how the system processed it.

Log Search helps, for example, with questions like:

Did SpamExperts receive the message?

Was she accepted?

Was it classified as spam?

Was she held back?

Was there a problem with the forwarding?

Practical Tip: When a customer or business partner reports that their email did not arrive, first ask for Sender address, recipient address and approximate dispatch time. With these three pieces of information, the message can be examined much more specifically.

The complete instructions will follow below SpamExperts Log Search: Trace E-Mail History.

Spam Quarantine – Held Messages

In the Spam Quarantine you will find messages that were withheld due to the filter evaluation.

Quarantine is especially important if a legitimate message may have been incorrectly classified as spam.

There you can examine corresponding messages and—depending on the respective function and permission—perform further actions.

Quarantine should be checked regularly or whenever messages are missing.

We explain how you proceed under Using Spam Quarantine in SpamExperts.

Sender Allow List – Explicitly Allow Senders

With the Sender Allow List Can you specifically allow certain senders.

This can make sense if a legitimate sender is repeatedly misclassified and you have already investigated the cause.

However, an allow list should not become the standard tool for every missing message.

The better order is:

Message missing
      ↓
Log Search
      ↓
Check classification
      ↓
Assess cause
      ↓
only then define suitable exception

We explain the setup at Sender Allow List: Allow senders in SpamExperts.

Sender Block List – Block specific senders

The Sender Block List serves to specifically block certain senders.

It is suitable for traceable blocks of specific senders, but should not be used as a replacement for automatic spam detection.

With typical spam, senders frequently change or forge their addresses. Manually blocking every single spam address is therefore usually not a sensible long-term strategy.

We explain how to use the Block List properly at Sender Block List: Block senders in SpamExperts.

Attention: Do not simply put your own domain on the sender block list to combat forged senders. SPF, DKIM, and DMARC play a particularly important role in protecting against domain spoofing.

Filter Settings – Configure spam filter behavior

Among the Filter Settings you can find settings that can influence the behavior of the incoming filtering.

Depending on the available configuration, different testing and treatment options may be available there.

The standard configuration should not be heavily modified without a specific reason.

If a single email has been mishandled, it is usually better to use Log Search first and understand the root cause.

We cover the filter settings in detail under Configure SpamExperts filter settings correctly.

Destinations – where SpamExperts forwards emails

During incoming filtering, SpamExperts first receives incoming messages. Accepted messages must then be forwarded to your domain's actual mail server.

The target configured for this is listed in SpamExperts as Destination referred to as.

Simplified:

Internet
   ↓
MX records
   ↓
SpamExperts
   ↓
Destination
   ↓
Destination mail server

An incorrect destination can cause SpamExperts to accept a message correctly, but subsequently fail to deliver it to the correct mail server.

We cover the setup of incoming filtering, MX records, and destination mail servers under Set up SpamExperts incoming filtering and configure MX records.

Protection Reports – Monitor filtered messages via report

With Protection Reports Information about filtered messages can be provided in the form of regular reports.

This saves you from constantly having to open the SpamExperts Control Panel to get an overview of relevant filter events.

Protection Reports are particularly useful for users who want to regularly check their quarantine or filtered messages.

We explain the setup at Set up and manage SpamExperts protection reports.

Filter Training – Training Spam Filter

If an unwanted message was not recognized as spam, it can be used for filter training.

Conversely, legitimate messages can be considered desirable or Ham be trained, provided this is appropriate for the case in question.

Simplified:

Spam
→ unwanted message

Ham
→ legitimate message

Training should be targeted. Not every unwanted promotional message is automatically a suitable training case.

We explain the procedure under Train SpamExperts Filter: Report spam and ham correctly.

Outgoing Filtering

If for your service Outgoing Filtering is available, you will find additional functions for outgoing email traffic in the Control Panel.

Outgoing Filtering can be used, for example, to send emails via the SpamExperts infrastructure and to control outgoing email traffic.

Appropriate users can be set up for SMTP authentication.

You can find the complete setup at Set up SpamExperts Outgoing Filtering.

Manage Users in the Outgoing Area

Under Outgoing → Manage users users can be managed for authenticated outbound sending.

A corresponding one Authenticating User can then be used, for example, for an SMTP connection.

The username and associated password are login credentials and should be protected accordingly.

SPF and SpamExperts

SPF is not a menu item that you simply activate in the SpamExperts dashboard. SPF is published via a DNS TXT record for the domain.

In simple terms, SPF specifies which systems are authorized to send emails for a domain.

When using outgoing filtering, the SPF configuration of the domain must therefore also be taken into account.

We cover the correct setup under Properly setting up and checking SPF for SpamExperts.

Dashboard features depend on access

Not every SpamExperts user necessarily sees the same menu items.

The visible features may depend, among other things, on:

which SpamExperts service is configured

whether incoming filtering is used

whether Outgoing Filtering is used

what permissions the user has

at which administrative level the user is logged in

If a function from a manual is not displayed for you, that does not automatically mean that the control panel is faulty.

What to do if an important email is missing?

In the event of a missing incoming email, you shouldn't randomly change different areas of the dashboard.

Proceed in this order instead:

Write down the sender address.

Note the recipient address.

Note the approximate shipping time.

Open Log Search.

Search for the message in question.

Check status and classification.

Check the spam quarantine if necessary.

Decide only after that whether a filter change is necessary.

This ensures the filter configuration remains traceable.

What to do when spam ends up in your inbox?

If an unwanted message has passed through the filter, you should not automatically block the sender.

First, check whether the message is suitable for filter training.

With constantly changing or forged sender addresses, a long block list is often of little use.

You can find the instructions under Train SpamExperts Filter: Report spam and ham correctly.

What to do when legitimate emails end up in quarantine?

First, check the message in question and its processing.

A single misclassification should not automatically result in an entire domain being permanently allowed.

Investigate first:

which sender is affected

how SpamExperts classified the message

whether the problem occurs again

whether a targeted exception is actually necessary

What you shouldn't change in the dashboard on a hunch

Avoid in particular:

große Allow Lists ohne konkreten Grund

große Block Lists mit einzelnen Spam-Absendern

Deaktivierung von
