On many Android devices, the Gmail app already preinstalled. There, in addition to a Google account, you can also set up a standard IMAP email account from CURIAWEB.

For the setup, we recommend IMAP. Your messages remain stored on the mail server and can be synchronized between your smartphone, tablet, computer, and webmail.

Important: Before you begin, the desired email address must already be set up on your CURIAWEB hosting. You will need your full email address and the password of the email account in question.

You need these CURIAWEB email settings

For the normal setup of a CURIAWEB email account, you use the following server data:

Setting

Value

Username

Your complete email address

Password

Email account password

Incoming mail server

mail.your-domain.ch

IMAP port

993

POP3 port

995

Outgoing mail server (SMTP)

mail.your-domain.ch

SMTP port

465

Authentication

Required for IMAP, POP3 and SMTP

Example: Is your email address
info@meine-firma.ch
, you use as a username
info@meine-firma.ch
and as a mail server
mail.meine-firma.ch
.

Why we recommend IMAP on Android

For smartphones and tablets, we recommend setting it up via IMAP instead of POP3.

IMAP manages the message collection on the mail server. This allows messages, folders, and various status information to be synchronized between multiple devices.

For example, when you read an email on your Android smartphone, it can then also be shown as read on your computer or in webmail.

The same basically applies to moving or deleting messages.

POP3 is more focused on retrieving messages and is therefore less suitable if the same mailbox is to be used on multiple devices.

Our recommendation: Use IMAP with port
993
and an encrypted SSL/TLS connection.

Add CURIAWEB email address in the Gmail app

Open on your Android device the Gmail app.

Tap your profile picture or Google Account icon in the top right.

Then select Add another account.

Gmail shows you different email providers or account types.

Choose Other, since a standard CURIAWEB email address is not a Gmail, Outlook.com, or other standard account listed there.

Enter email address

Enter your complete email address.

Example:

info@meine-firma.ch

Then tap on Continue.

Select account type IMAP

Android or Gmail is now asking for the desired account type.

Choose:

Personal (IMAP)

Depending on the Android or Gmail version, the exact designation may vary slightly.

Important: If you can choose between POP3 and IMAP, use for the normal CURIAWEB configuration IMAP.

Enter email account password

Then enter the password set for the email address in question.

This is the password of Email accounts.

It is not automatically identical to your password for the CURIAWEB customer center, cPanel, or your Google account.

Set up incoming mail server

For the incoming mail server, you use the CURIAWEB IMAP settings.

Setting

Value

Username

Your complete email address

Password

Email account password

Server

mail.your-domain.ch

Port

993

Safety type

SSL/TLS

Authentication

Required

At the example domain
meine-firma.ch
is the server:

mail.meine-firma.ch

You will continue to use your full email address as your username:

info@meine-firma.ch

Typical error: Do not use only the part before the
@
as username. However, for Android smartphones and use on multiple devices, we recommend IMAP.

Emails can be received, but not sent

If you can receive messages but sending fails, the IMAP connection is basically working. In that case, check the SMTP server settings in particular.

For the standard CURIAWEB configuration, the following values must be used:

SMTP server: mail.deine-domain.ch
Port: 465
Security: SSL/TLS
Authentication: required
Username: full email address
Password: email account password

Check in particular whether the option for logging in or authenticating against the SMTP server is enabled.

Emails can be sent, but not received

If sending works, but no new messages appear on the Android device, check the IMAP settings.

These should look like this:

IMAP Server: mail.deine-domain.ch
Port: 993
Security: SSL/TLS
Authentication: required
Username: full email address
Password: email account password

Then check webmail to see if the expected message is there.

If the message is present in webmail but not in the Gmail app, it indicates an issue with the account configuration or synchronization on the Android device.

Use webmail as a cross-check

If you have trouble with the setup, Webmail is a helpful troubleshooting step.

If you can log in there with your email address and password, as well as send and receive emails, the email account and server-side login are working in principle.

The problem is then probably with the configuration on the Android device.

We explain how to use webmail at Use Webmail.

Gmail reports an incorrect username or password

First, check whether your username really full email address use.

Correct:

info@meine-firma.ch

Insufficient:

Info

Then check the password of the email account.

You can test the same login credentials in webmail. If logging in does not work there either, the problem is likely with the credentials used and not the Gmail app.

After a password change, the email app no longer works

If you changed your email account password, the Gmail app may continue trying to sign in with the old password.

Therefore, update the saved access credentials.

Note that the password is required for both IMAP and SMTP.

Connection error to the server

If Gmail cannot connect to the server, you should first check the entered server name.

In the normal CURIAWEB configuration, it follows this schema:

mail.your-domain.ch

For
meine-firma.ch
would this be, for example:

mail.meine-firma.ch

Also check the port and security type.

Für IMAP:

993 / SSL/TLS

Für SMTP:

465 / SSL/TLS
