You can enter your CURIAWEB email address directly in Microsoft Outlook<\/strong> set up and then receive, manage, and send emails via Outlook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For standard setup, we recommend IMAP<\/strong>. Your messages will remain stored on the mail server and can be synchronized between Outlook, smartphone, tablet, and webmail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Microsoft now offers two different versions of Outlook on Windows: the new Outlook for Windows<\/strong> and this classic Outlook<\/strong>. Since the account setup differs between the two versions, we explain both variants in this article.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Important:<\/strong> Before you begin, the desired email address must already be set up on your CURIAWEB hosting. You will need your full email address and the password of the email account in question.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

IMAP or POP3 \u2013 what should you use in Outlook?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For normal use, we also recommend in Outlook IMAP<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With IMAP, the messages remain on the mail server. Outlook synchronizes the message collection with the server. This allows you to use the same email account simultaneously in Outlook, on your smartphone, and in webmail, for example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When you mark a message as read, move, or delete it in Outlook, this change can also be reflected on your other devices connected via IMAP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

POP3 is also available on CURIAWEB, but is usually less suitable for the modern use of a mailbox on multiple devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n

Our recommendation:<\/strong> Use IMAP via port 993<\/code> with SSL\/TLS. For sending, you use SMTP over port 465<\/code> with SSL\/TLS and authentication.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Are you using the new or the classic Outlook?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Before you begin the setup, you should determine which version of Outlook you are using.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At classic Outlook<\/strong> do you usually find the tab at the top File<\/strong>. Among other things, the account information and the function are located there Add account<\/strong> available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new Outlook for Windows<\/strong> uses a different interface and manages email accounts via Outlook settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The following sections discuss both variants separately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Add CURIAWEB E-Mail in the new Outlook for Windows<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Open that new Outlook for Windows<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Open settings or account management and go to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Accounts \u2192 Your accounts<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then select the option Add account<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enter your complete CURIAWEB email address.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Outlook initially attempts to detect the required settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Use IMAP for the CURIAWEB account<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If Outlook does not automatically detect the settings correctly or offers manual configuration, select IMAP<\/strong> as account type.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then use the CURIAWEB server data for incoming and outgoing mail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Important:<\/strong> The exact appearance of the advanced settings may change with updates to the new Outlook. The crucial factors are the server data, ports, SSL\/TLS, and authentication with your full email address.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Set up CURIAWEB e-mail in classic Outlook<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In classic Outlook, you can add your CURIAWEB email account via account management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enter your complete email address.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For targeted manual setup, open the Advanced options<\/strong> and activate the option that allows you to set up the account manually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Outlook now shows you different account types.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Incoming mail server in classic Outlook<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Do not enable Secure Password Authentication (SPA)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In classic Outlook, during a manual IMAP configuration, a setting called Secure Password Authentication (SPA)<\/strong> displayed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This option is for the normal CURIAWEB IMAP configuration not required and should remain disabled<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n

Attention:<\/strong> SPA is not the same as SSL\/TLS. The connection to the CURIAWEB mail server is encrypted using SSL\/TLS. Therefore, do not enable SPA additionally \"just in case\".<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Enter password and connect<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Enter the password of the email account in question and start the connection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Outlook is now checking the specified settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once the setup has been successfully completed, you can use the account in Outlook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CURIAWEB Outlook settings at a glance<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

With IMAP, the mailbox is much better suited for simultaneous use in Outlook, on smartphones, tablets, and in webmail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Send a test email after setup<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
After successful setup, you should check both sending and receiving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Send a message to another email address you have access to. Then reply to that message.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This allows you to check both outgoing SMTP transmission and incoming IMAP reception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Outlook can receive emails, but cannot send them<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
If receiving works, but sending does not, your IMAP access is generally functional. In that case, check the SMTP settings in particular.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For the standard CURIAWEB configuration:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A common mistake is that the outgoing mail server has not been configured for authentication or incorrect credentials are being used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Outlook can send but cannot receive emails<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
If sending works, but no new messages appear, check the IMAP settings:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
IMAP server: mail.deine-domain.ch\nPort: 993\nEncryption: SSL\/TLS\nAuthentication: required\nUsername: full email address\nPassword: email account password<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n
Then check in webmail if there are any new messages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If the expected messages appear in webmail but not in Outlook, you should first check the Outlook configuration and synchronization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Use webmail as a cross-check<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
If you have problems with Outlook, webmail is an easy way to distinguish between an email account issue and a local Outlook issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Log in to webmail using the same email address and password.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If you can send and receive messages there, the email account and server-side login are fundamentally working.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The problem is then likely with Outlook or its account settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Outlook keeps asking for the password<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
If Outlook repeatedly asks for your password, you should first check whether the entered access data is actually correct.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Your full e-mail address must be used as the username.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then test the password in webmail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If the login works there, check both the incoming and outgoing mail server settings in Outlook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In classic Outlook, the option for Secure Password Authentication (SPA)<\/strong> not be activated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After a password change, Outlook no longer works<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
If the email account password has been changed, Outlook may continue to try using the previously saved password.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Therefore, update the account access credentials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The new password must be used to log in to the IMAP and SMTP servers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Outlook reports a certificate error<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
If Outlook displays a warning about the mail server's SSL\/TLS certificate, you should not simply accept it permanently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
First, check the entered server name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the normal CURIAWEB configuration, it follows this schema:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the domain meine-firma.ch<\/code> would this be:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Safety Notice:<\/strong> A certificate warning can indicate that the entered hostname does not match the SSL\/TLS certificate. Therefore, check the server configuration first instead of simply ignoring the warning.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
Folders or messages are not fully synchronized<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
With an IMAP connection, Outlook should synchronize the mail folders existing on the server.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If folders or messages are missing, check first whether the account is actually as IMAP account<\/strong> was established.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then check via webmail whether the folders and messages in question are there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If they are present in webmail, the problem is likely due to synchronization or account configuration in Outlook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Why do read or deleted emails also appear on other devices?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
This is fundamentally intended with IMAP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The message store is managed on the mail server. Outlook synchronizes with this store.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When you read, move, or delete a message in Outlook, this change can therefore also become visible on your smartphone, tablet, or in webmail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Outlook is not the same as Outlook.com or Microsoft 365<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
Microsoft's designations can easily lead to confusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Microsoft Outlook<\/strong> is the application you can use to manage various email accounts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, this does not automatically turn a CURIAWEB email address into an Outlook.com, Microsoft 365, or Exchange account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Your normal CURIAWEB email address will be displayed in Outlook as IMAP account<\/strong> Set up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Briefly explained:<\/strong> In this case, Outlook is the email program. Your actual mailbox remains on the CURIAWEB mail infrastructure.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
Calendar and contacts are not syncing via IMAP<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
IMAP is a protocol for accessing email messages and mail folders. It does not automatically synchronize calendars and contacts with Outlook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When you set up a CURIAWEB email address as an IMAP account in Outlook, this does not mean that Outlook will automatically synchronize server-side calendars or contacts like it would with a Microsoft Exchange account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This is not an email setup error, but a feature of the account type being used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
SpamExperts Incoming Filtering does not change Outlook IMAP settings<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
If SpamExperts Incoming Filtering is used for your domain, this affects the path of incoming messages before they reach the actual CURIAWEB mail server.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Outlook continues to connect to your mailbox via:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
mail.your-domain.ch<\/code><\/p>\n\n\n\n
That is why you are wearing Do not set up a SpamExperts MX server as an IMAP server in Outlook<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Briefly explained:<\/strong> The MX server receives messages for your domain. Outlook then accesses your actual mailbox via IMAP. These are two different functions.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
SpamExperts Outgoing Filtering as a special case<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
If your account explicitly uses SpamExperts Outgoing Filtering, the SMTP configuration may differ from the standard CURIAWEB configuration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In this case, use the SMTP data designated for SpamExperts Outgoing Filtering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Remove email account from Outlook<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
If an account has been set up completely incorrectly, it can make sense to remove the Outlook configuration and then set up the account cleanly again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When removing an IMAP account from Outlook, the actual email account on the CURIAWEB mail server is not automatically deleted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Important:<\/strong> Removing an account from Outlook and deleting an email account on the hosting server are two different operations. Furthermore, before making any changes, ensure that no important data is stored exclusively locally in Outlook.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
