Change your cPanel password: Quick help with login issues

If you can no longer log in to cPanel, or if you have forgotten the password for your cPanel main account or main FTP access, you can reset the password directly in the CURIAWEB Client Area. In many cases, you do not need to contact support first.

This is especially helpful if you no longer have access to the technical hosting interface but can still log in to your CURIAWEB Client Area. Through the product management area of your hosting service, you can set a new password for the cPanel main account and restore access to central hosting functions.

Briefly explained: Which password is changed?

This function changes the password of the cPanel main account. This password usually also applies to the main FTP access of the hosting package. Passwords for individual email accounts or additional FTP users are not changed by this.

When should you reset the cPanel password?

Changing the password is useful if you have forgotten the current cPanel password, if login with the known credentials no longer works, or if you want to use a new password for security reasons. It may also be advisable to change the cPanel main account password after suspected unauthorised access.

Because cPanel contains important technical functions for your hosting, access should always be well protected. Depending on your hosting package, cPanel can be used to manage files, email functions, databases, domains and other technical settings. A secure password is therefore an essential part of hosting security.

Important: This guide assumes that you can still log in to the CURIAWEB Client Area. If you no longer have access to the Client Area either, you must first restore access to your customer account.

How to change the cPanel password in the CURIAWEB Client Area

The password is changed through the product management area of your hosting package. Make sure you select the correct hosting product, especially if you manage several services in your customer account.

Overview of the steps:

  1. Log in to the CURIAWEB Client Area.
  2. Go to “Services” and then to “My Services”.
  3. Click the affected hosting package.
  4. In the left navigation, select “Change Password”.
  5. Enter a new, secure password.
  6. Confirm the entry as shown in the Client Area.
  7. Save the change.

After saving, the new password is set for the cPanel main account. You can then try to log in to cPanel with the new password or use the main FTP access with the updated credentials.

What does main account mean in cPanel?

The cPanel main account is the central technical user of your hosting package. It is not the same as your CURIAWEB customer account. The Client Area is used to manage products, invoices, domains and customer data. cPanel, on the other hand, is the technical administration interface for your hosting.

The password you set through “Change Password” in the hosting product applies to the cPanel main account. It may also be relevant for the main FTP access. Additional users, separate FTP accounts or individual email mailboxes have their own credentials and must be managed separately.

Manage email accounts and additional FTP users separately

Changing the cPanel main password does not automatically change the passwords of your individual email accounts. If an email user has forgotten their password or a mailbox no longer works, the password of that specific email account must be changed directly in cPanel.

The same applies to additional FTP users. If you have created FTP accounts in addition to the main FTP access, these accounts have their own passwords. They are not replaced by changing the cPanel main password. Continue to manage such users directly inside cPanel.

Note: If only a single email account or an additional FTP user is affected, you do not necessarily need to change the cPanel main password. Instead, reset the password of the affected account directly in cPanel.

What is a secure cPanel password?

A secure password should be long, unique and difficult to guess. Do not use a password that you already use for other services. Reusing a password for hosting access is risky because it may provide access to files, websites, databases or technical settings.

A password with sufficient length and a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers and special characters is recommended. Even better is using a trusted password manager that can generate and securely store strong passwords.

After the change: Update saved credentials

If you change the cPanel password, you must update the new password wherever the old one was saved. This may include FTP programs, development environments, deployment tools or other applications that use the main FTP access.

If an FTP login fails after the password change, first check whether your FTP program still has the old password saved. Update the credentials and test the connection again.

Security after suspected misuse

If you change the password because you suspect unauthorised access, you should also perform additional security checks. Check your website files, configured FTP users, email accounts and, if applicable, databases for unusual changes. Also check whether unknown users or forwarding rules have been created.

In such cases, do not only change the cPanel main password, but also other relevant passwords, for example for CMS administration areas, databases, email accounts or additional FTP users. If you are unsure, contact CURIAWEB Support.

What if login still does not work?

If cPanel login is still not possible after changing the password, first check whether you selected the correct hosting package and whether you are using the correct username. Also make sure the new password was entered exactly and that no spaces were copied accidentally.

If you normally open cPanel through the “Login to cPanel” button in the Client Area, test this direct access as well. If the problem persists, contact CURIAWEB Support and specify which hosting package is affected and which error message is displayed.

Summary

If you have forgotten your cPanel password or the access details for the main FTP user, you can reset the password in the CURIAWEB Client Area under “Services” > “My Services” in the relevant hosting package via “Change Password”. This change affects the cPanel main account and usually the main FTP access, but not individual email accounts or additional FTP users. Use a strong, unique password and update saved credentials in FTP programs or other tools.
