Maximum Spam Protection through Challenge-Response Verification

BoxTrapper is one of the most effective methods to keep your inbox completely free of unwanted commercial emails. It works on the principle of Challenge-Response Verification: anyone writing to you for the first time must briefly verify themselves as a real person.

How it works: When an unknown address sends you an email, BoxTrapper holds it back and automatically sends the sender a confirmation request. Only once the sender clicks the link is the email delivered to your inbox and the sender whitelisted for the future.

1. Enable BoxTrapper

To turn on protection for a specific mailbox, go to BoxTrapper in the Email section of your cPanel:

  • Click "Manage" next to the desired account in the list.
  • Click the "Enable" button.

Note: All addresses to which you send an email yourself are automatically whitelisted by BoxTrapper.

2. Manage the Most Important Lists

BoxTrapper uses three different lists to sort emails. You can manually adjust these under "Edit White/Black/Ignore Lists":

Whitelist Senders on this list are delivered immediately.
Ignore List Emails from these senders are deleted without feedback.
Blacklist Messages are deleted and the sender receives a block notification.

3. Customize Confirmation Messages

You can change the text that BoxTrapper sends to unknown senders. To do this, click on "Edit Confirmation Messages".

Available Variables (Placeholders):

%email% (Sender), %subject% (Subject), %fromname% (Your Name).

Important: Never modify the string verify#%msgid% in the subject line. It is technically required for the verification process.

4. Check the Queue

If you suspect that an important email is "stuck" in verification, click "Review Queue". Here you can manually release messages ("Whitelist and Deliver") or delete them.

Tip from CURIAWEB: BoxTrapper is ideal for addresses suffering from massive spam. For primary business addresses with a lot of new customer contact, we recommend optimizing SpamAssassin instead to avoid creating hurdles for potential clients.
