Finder-style File Transfer with Fetch

Fetch is one of the most traditional FTP clients for macOS. It stands out for its seamless integration into the system and a user interface that strongly resembles the Apple Finder. This makes managing your website files at CURIAWEB particularly intuitive.

1. Download and Installation

Fetch is available free of charge for many users (e.g., in the educational sector). You can obtain the software here:

2. Establishing a New Connection

When started for the first time, Fetch automatically opens the "New Connection" window. If not, you can find it under File > New Connection.

  • Hostname: Your domain (e.g., yourdomain.ch) or the server IP.
  • Username: Your FTP username from cPanel.
  • Connect using: Choose SFTP (recommended) or FTP.
  • Password: Your FTP password.

3. Navigation and File Management

Fetch displays the server structure like a standard folder list:

  • Change folders: Double-click a folder or use Cmd + Down Arrow.
  • Path menu: Use the path button in the toolbar to immediately see which subdirectory you are in.
  • Back: Use the back button to move up one level, just like in a browser.

4. Up- and Downloads

Upload (Put)
Click on "Put" or drag files directly from the Finder into the Fetch window. The "Automatic" format usually correctly identifies whether it is text or images.
Download (Get)
Select files and click "Get" or simply drag the files onto your desktop.

Remember: Your visible website content must be uploaded to the public_html folder.
