Expanding Functionality: How to Use the Joomla Extension Directory (JED)

Joomla thrives on its extensions. Whether it's an image gallery, contact form, or SEO tool – in the official JED, you will find thousands of helpers for your website.

Installation via Web Catalog

In recent versions, you can search for extensions directly from the backend:

  1. Go to Extensions -> Manage -> Install.
  2. Select the tab "Install from Web".
  3. Search for the desired function and click "Install".

Manual Upload

If you have purchased an extension (as a .zip file) directly from a developer:

  • Select the tab "Upload Package File".
  • Drag the zip file into the box. Joomla will automatically extract and install the component.
