Security through Obscurity: Hiding the Admin Path

By default, the Magento backend is accessible at /admin. Hackers use automated scripts to attempt password brute-force attacks at exactly these types of addresses. A custom URL is one of the simplest protective measures.

How to Change the Path

Navigate to Stores > Configuration > Advanced > Admin > Admin Base URL.

  1. Set "Use Custom Admin Path" to "Yes".
  2. Enter your desired path (e.g., secret_access_2026).
  3. Save and flush the cache.
Important: Note down the new URL immediately! If you forget the path, you will have to laboriously search for it in the env.php file on the server via FTP or SSH.
