Make Data-Driven Decisions with GA4

Google Analytics 4 is the current standard for analyzing user behavior. Unlike the old Universal Analytics, GA4 measures "events" instead of just page views. This gives you more precise insights into how customers interact with your shop.

Guide: Creating a GA4 Account and Data Stream

  1. Login: Go to analytics.google.com and log in with your Google account.
  2. Create Account: Click the gear icon (Admin) at the bottom left. Click "Create Account," enter your company name, and confirm the data privacy options.
  3. Create Property: Enter your shop's name. Important: Set the time zone to Switzerland and the currency to Swiss Francs (CHF).
  4. Set Up Data Stream: Select the "Web" platform. Enter your URL (e.g., https://myshop.ch) and a stream name. Keep "Enhanced measurement" enabled.
  5. Get Measurement ID: After saving, you will see your Measurement ID (Format: G-XXXXXXXXXX). Copy this – it is the link to your shop.

Integration in PrestaShop/Magento: It is best to use a GA4 module. Usually, you only need to enter the Measurement ID there so that e-commerce data (purchases, carts) are transmitted automatically.

Why Correct Setup is Critical

Many users make the mistake of leaving the currency or time zone at default values (USA/Dollar). This leads to massive discrepancies in your revenue reports. GA4 also needs about 24 to 48 hours before the first data becomes visible in reports. Test the connection immediately after setup using the "Real-time report."

Note on Data Privacy (nFADP): In Switzerland, you must update your privacy policy and use a cookie banner (consent manager) before loading Google Analytics.
