Upgrade or downgrade your hosting package: Grow flexibly with your requirements

As your project grows, your web hosting requirements may change as well. You may need more storage space, additional resources or a more powerful hosting package. In other cases, a smaller package may be sufficient if a project needs fewer resources than originally planned.

At CURIAWEB, you can adjust your hosting package flexibly directly in the client area. The change is made using the Upgrade/Downgrade function. Your existing files, databases and emails remain intact. Only the booked hosting package or the associated server resources are adjusted in the background.

In brief: What does upgrade or downgrade mean?

An upgrade means switching to a larger or more powerful hosting package. A downgrade means switching to a smaller package. In both cases, your existing hosting service is adjusted without having to recreate your website or move your data manually.

When does an upgrade make sense?

An upgrade makes sense when your current hosting package no longer matches the requirements of your project. This may be the case if your website grows, receives more visitors, requires additional email accounts or needs more storage space for files, images, backups or databases.

A more powerful package may also be useful for larger web applications, online shops, WordPress websites with many plugins or several projects running at the same time. The goal is to provide enough resources so that your website can operate reliably and stably.

When can a downgrade make sense?

A downgrade can make sense if you need fewer resources than before. This may apply to smaller projects, archived websites, test environments or reduced requirements.

Before downgrading, however, you should check whether the smaller package still provides enough storage space and resources for your files, databases, email accounts and other services. If a smaller package is not sufficient, restrictions may occur later.

How to change your hosting package in the client area

You can start the package change directly in the CURIAWEB client area.

Procedure overview:

  1. Log in to the CURIAWEB client area.
  2. Go to Services -> My Services.
  3. Click the product you want to change.
  4. In the left-hand sidebar under actions, select Upgrade/Downgrade.
  5. Select your desired new package.
  6. The system automatically calculates the difference for the remaining term.
  7. Complete the payment.
  8. After successful payment, the new package is activated immediately and fully automatically.

How is the price calculated?

When switching to another hosting package, the system automatically calculates the price difference for the remaining term. This means that the remaining duration of your current service is taken into account instead of charging a completely separate new period.

This automatic calculation makes the change easier because you can see directly in the client area which amount is due for the package change. After payment is completed, the new package is activated.

Note: The new package is activated immediately and fully automatically after successful payment. Before changing, check whether the selected package matches the requirements of your website, email usage and databases.

What happens to files, databases and emails?

Your existing files, databases and emails remain untouched during an upgrade or downgrade. The process is not a new installation and not a migration of your website. Instead, your existing hosting service is adjusted in the background to the selected package.

This is especially important if your website is already in active use or if productive email accounts are operated on the hosting package. Content such as website files, databases, mailboxes and existing configurations remain in place during the package change.

Will there be downtime?

The package change is designed to be carried out without data loss and without downtime. Since your data is not manually moved and only the resources are adjusted in the background, your existing hosting service remains in place.

Nevertheless, it is recommended to plan major changes to production websites carefully and to keep current backups of your website and databases before important adjustments. This is good practice for secure website operation regardless of a package change.

What should you consider before changing?

Before upgrading or downgrading, check which package matches your current and future requirements. Pay particular attention to storage space, the number and size of your websites, databases, email accounts and the expected usage of your project.

If you are unsure which package is suitable, it can be helpful to review your current usage and project requirements. If needed, you can contact CURIAWEB Support so that the appropriate solution for your hosting can be selected.

Summary

You can flexibly adjust your hosting package by upgrading or downgrading it in the CURIAWEB client area. You will find the function under Services > My Services > selected product > Upgrade/Downgrade. The system automatically calculates the difference for the remaining term. After successful payment, the new package is activated immediately and fully automatically. Your files, databases and emails remain intact during this process.
