SSL Encryption: A Must for Google & Trust
A website without an SSL certificate (recognizable by https:// and the padlock symbol) is marked as "insecure" by Google today. This not only scares off visitors but also leads to massive devaluations in search rankings.

It is not enough to just have a certificate. Your site must automatically redirect all requests from http to https. This is often done via the so-called .htaccess file or directly in your CMS.
