Customer Center and cPanel: What is the difference?

Reading time approx.: 3 minutes

With CURIAWEB, you use two different areas to manage your hosting: the CURIAWEB Customer Center and cPanel. Both belong to your hosting, but they have different tasks.

In the customer center, you primarily manage your customer account, contracts, products, domains, invoices, and support requests. In cPanel, on the other hand, you will find the technical management of your web hosting, for example, e-mail accounts, files, databases, and other hosting settings.

Briefly explained: I'm CURIAWEB Customer Center you manage your customer account and your booked services. In cPanel you manage the technical functions of your hosting package.

What do I manage in the CURIAWEB customer center? #

The CURIAWEB Customer Center is the central management hub for your business relationship with CURIAWEB. Here you will find your booked products and domains as well as all important administrative functions.

In the customer center you can, among other things:

  • view your hosting packages and other services
  • Manage domains
  • View invoices and download as PDF
  • pay unpaid invoices
  • Manage customer credit
  • Update master data and billing address
  • Upgrade or downgrade hosting packages
  • Order additional options
  • Cancel services
  • Create and answer support tickets
  • Manage security settings like two-factor authentication

So when it comes to your customer account, a contract, an invoice, a domain, or a booked service works, normally the CURIAWEB customer center is the right place to go.

What do I manage in cPanel? #

cPanel is the technical administration interface of your web hosting. Here, you work directly with the features and resources of your hosting package.

Depending on the hosting package and enabled features, in cPanel you can, for example:

  • Create and manage email accounts
  • Set up email forwarding
  • Manage spam and email settings
  • Edit files via the file manager
  • Manage FTP accounts
  • Manage MySQL databases and database users
  • Technically manage domains and subdomains
  • Check PHP settings
  • Use SSL and security features
  • View statistics and resource information
  • use additional technical hosting features

So if you something technically set up or modify within your web hosting you want, you will usually find the corresponding function in cPanel.

Important: Client area and cPanel are two separate systems. Therefore, changing your client area password does not automatically change your cPanel password, email passwords, or other technical access credentials.

How do I get from the client area to cPanel? #

You don't have to remember a separate cPanel login every time. CURIAWEB offers direct access from the client area to your hosting via Single Sign-On (SSO).

How to open cPanel:

  1. Log in to CURIAWEB Customer Center a.
  2. Open „Services“ → „My Services“.
  3. Select the desired hosting package.
  4. Click on „cPanel Login“.
  5. cPanel is opened via direct login.

You normally do not need to enter a separate cPanel password for this, as access takes place from within your already logged-in customer account.

You can find more about this in our guide Single Sign-On: Open cPanel directly from the CURIAWEB customer center.

Do customer service and cPanel have the same password? #

No. The password for your CURIAWEB client area and the password for your cPanel main account are separate from each other.

This is important because both approaches fulfill different tasks:

  • Customer center password: protects your CURIAWEB customer account.
  • cPanel password: protects the direct technical access to your hosting.
  • Email passwords: each belong to the individual email mailbox.
  • additional FTP passwords: belong to the respective FTP user.

If you have forgotten your password, you can reset it via your hosting product in the customer center. You can find the instructions at Change cPanel password in the CURIAWEB customer center.

Why are there two administrative areas in the first place? #

The separation has a simple reason: administrative and technical tasks are not the same thing.

Paying an invoice or canceling a hosting package has nothing to do with the technical configuration of your website. Conversely, creating an email account or a database should not take place in the contract and billing management.

That is why the CURIAWEB customer center takes over the administrative management, while cPanel technical hosting management takes over.

Rule of thumb: If it is about your account, your bill, or your contract, open the Customer Center. Whether it is about your website, emails, files, or databases, open cPanel.

Can I access cPanel directly? #

Yes. In addition to Single Sign-On via the customer center, a direct login with your main cPanel account credentials is also possible in principle.

For normal everyday use, however, the direct entry via the CURIAWEB customer center is particularly convenient because after logging in you can simply select the desired hosting and open cPanel.

What is safety-critical? #

Since you can access important functions of your hosting directly from the customer center, you should protect your CURIAWEB customer account particularly well.

Use a unique and secure password and also enable the Two-Factor Authentication (2FA). Therefore, your password alone is not enough to access your customer account.

We explain how to set up 2FA at Enable two-factor authentication for the CURIAWEB customer center.

Safety: Do not share your personal customer center login with web designers, employees, or other external persons. If someone needs access, a separate user account should be set up with the specific permissions actually required.

You can find out how this works under Set up user access for web designers or employees.

What to do if you don't know where to find a setting? #

If you cannot find a specific function in either the customer center or cPanel, you do not need to change settings on a whim.

Just create a Support ticket in the CURIAWEB customer center and briefly describe what you want to set up or change. We can then tell you where to find the corresponding function or what approach makes sense.
