A backup is only truly useful if it is also available independently of the live hosting data.
That is why CURIAWEB does not store the daily backups on the same server as your website, your emails, and your other hosting data.
The backups are stored on separate backup servers in a separate data center.
Briefly explained: Your active hosting data and the backups are not located in the same place. As a result, the backups are additionally separated from the actual hosting environment.
Why should backups be stored separately? #
The purpose of a backup is to have an independent copy of the data available.
If a backup were stored exclusively on the same server as the original data, both would depend on the same server.

Therefore, backups are sensibly stored separately from the running data.
How is that handled in CURIAWEB? #
At CURIAWEB, daily backups are stored on separate backup servers.
These are additionally located in a different data center than the running hosting data.

What is the benefit of separating onto another server? #
The most important advantage is the technical separation between original data and backup.
Therefore, a problem on a single hosting server does not automatically affect the backup server.
That is the fundamental difference between an additional copy on the same system and a separately stored backup.
Example: If the hard drives of a hosting server were unavailable, the backups would still be on another server and could be used for a restoration.
Why another data center in addition? #
Separate servers in the same data center would already be separate systems.
CURIAWEB goes a step further with backup storage and keeps the backups in a separate data center.
This ensures that the backups do not depend on the exact same infrastructure and location as the running hosting systems.
This creates an additional separation between the production data and its backups.
Does separate storage mean that nothing can happen? #
No.
No backup system can guarantee that data can always be restored under all conceivable circumstances.
However, separate backup servers and a separate data center reduce the dependence on a single server or a single location.
Important: Separate storage is an additional security measure. It is not a guarantee against every possible form of data loss.
How often is the data backed up? #
CURIAWEB creates automatic daily backups of the hosting data.
Daily backups are retained for 30 days.

Where can I see my existing backups? #
As a customer, you can see in JetBackup 5 which days have backups available for your hosting account.
You can find JetBackup 5 directly in cPanel.

Do I need to worry about separate storage? #
No. The daily backups and their storage on the separate backup systems are done automatically.
You don't need to change a setting in cPanel for this, nor do you need to transfer data to another server yourself.

Separate backups do not replace long-term archiving #
The separate storage of the backups improves the independence of the backups from the running hosting systems.
However, it does not change the retention period.
The daily backups are retained for 30 days. Older backups are automatically removed after that.
Therefore, if you need to store certain data for the long term, you should not rely exclusively on daily hosting backups.
