The ones stored for a domain Owner and Contact Information should always be up to date. If, for example, your address, company name, a contact person, or a saved email address changes, you should check whether your domain's contact information also needs to be updated.
In the CURIAWEB customer center, you can view the contact information stored for your domain and – insofar as this is supported for the relevant domain extension – change it.
What are the ownership and contact details of a domain? #
When registering a domain, various details regarding the domain holder and the responsible contacts are stored. Which data and contact roles are used depends, among other things, on the respective domain extension and the regulations of the responsible registry or registrar.
Depending on the domain, the following contact information may be available, for example:
- Registrant / Holder: the person, company, or organization the domain is registered to
- Administrative Contact: a contact person responsible for administrative matters
- Technical contact: a contact person responsible for technical matters
The terms WHOIS data and Domain contact details are often used in the same context. Due to today's data protection regulations, however, many of these details are no longer fully visible publicly via WHOIS or RDAP queries.
Important: Just because certain owner data is not publicly visible does not mean it is irrelevant for domain administration. The data stored with the registrar should still be correct and up to date.
When should you change the domain contact information? #
A review or modification is particularly useful if the domain owner's data or the responsible persons' data have changed.
Typical cases are:
- Change of address
- new email address of the domain owner
- Change of a company name
- Change of a responsible contact person
- organizational changes within a company
- Transfer of a domain to another person or organization
In the event of an actual transfer of the domain to a different owner, additional rules or confirmations may apply depending on the domain extension. Such a change should therefore not be equated with a simple correction of a telephone number or address.
How to change your contact details in the customer center #
You can access the available contact information for your domain via the domain management in the CURIAWEB customer center.
- Log in to CURIAWEB Customer Center a.
- Open „Domains“ and subsequently „My domains“.
- Select the domain whose data you want to edit.
- Open the section „Contact information“.
- Check the displayed holder and contact details.
- Change the required details.
- Check all data again carefully and save the changes.
Which fields can be changed may depend on the specific domain extension. Certain changes may require additional confirmations or further steps.
What information should you check particularly carefully? #
Of particular importance are the correct name or company name, the address, and the registered e-mail address.
For a business-used domain, make sure that the registered email address is permanently reachable and checked regularly. This is especially important if confirmation or other domain-related messages are sent via this address.
Recommendation: Check the contact details of important domains for changes to the company, address, or responsible persons. An outdated e-mail address can be particularly problematic if a change needs to be confirmed via it.
Changes to the account holder data may require confirmation #
Depending on the domain extension and the type of change, updating the registration data may trigger an additional confirmation process. This can be particularly relevant for changes to the domain owner or their email address.
If you receive a corresponding email after a change, you should pay close attention to the information and deadlines it contains. If necessary, also check your spam folder.
If you ignore a required confirmation, the desired change may not be fully completed, or—depending on the rules of the respective domain extension—further restrictions may occur.
A change of ownership is not the same as a domain transfer #
A Change of ownership and a Domain transfer are two different processes.
During a change of ownership, the details of the person or organization the domain is registered to change. In contrast, during a domain transfer, the domain is moved to a different registrar or provider.

Changes can affect a later transfer #
For certain domain extensions, changes to the registration or registrant data can affect a domain transfer planned immediately afterwards. Which rules apply depends on the respective domain extension and the authorities responsible for it.
If you want to change the owner data and transfer the domain to another provider at the same time, you should therefore not unnecessarily make multiple changes right after each other.
When in doubt, you can before changing a Create support ticket and specify which domain is affected and what you want to change.
What to do if the data cannot be changed? #
If a specific field in the customer center cannot be edited or a change is not saved, you should not attempt to enter other information as a replacement.
For certain domain extensions, special requirements may apply to specific changes. In this case, please create a support ticket and specify the domain in question as well as the data that needs to be changed.
This applies in particular when a complete change of ownership is to be carried out between two individuals, companies, or organizations.
Check domain contact details regularly #
For domains used for your website, business email addresses, or other important services, an occasional check of the stored data is worthwhile.
Especially after a move, a change of company name, or a change in responsible persons, you should check whether the domain information is still up to date.
