Cancel hosting package or service in the customer center

Reading time approx.: 3 minutes

If you no longer need a hosting package or another active CURIAWEB service, you can Request cancellation directly in the customer center. The cancellation request is thereby clearly assigned to the selected product.

When submitting your cancellation, you can specify whether the service should be terminated immediately or only at the end of the current billing period. Especially in the case of an immediate cancellation, you should check beforehand whether you still need any files, databases, emails, or other data.

How to cancel a hosting package or service #

Cancellation is done directly for the respective product in the CURIAWEB customer center.

  1. Log in to CURIAWEB Customer Center a.
  2. Open „Services“ and subsequently „My Services“.
  3. Select the service you want to cancel.
  4. Open in the section „Actions“ the function „Request cancellation“.
  5. Optionally, provide a reason for cancellation.
  6. Select the desired type of termination.
  7. Check your information and confirm the cancellation.

After submitting, you will receive a confirmation of your submitted cancellation request. Keep this in a safe place so that you can trace the process later if necessary.

Cancel immediately or at the end of the term? #

During the cancellation request, you can choose when the service in question should be terminated.

  • Immediate: The service is to be terminated at short notice. The associated data can then be deleted.
  • At the end of the term: The service will remain active until the end of the already paid period and will not be renewed thereafter.

If you want to continue using your service until the end of the paid term, cancellation at the end of the term is usually the appropriate option.

Important: Choose immediate cancellation only if you actually no longer need the service and have backed up all important data beforehand.

What does termination without notice mean? #

With an immediate cancellation, the selected service should not be terminated at the end of the regular subscription period, but rather at short notice.

With a hosting package, this can mean, for example, that your website, databases, and the email accounts operated via this hosting will no longer be available afterward. Data associated with the hosting may be deleted after termination.

Therefore, before terminating immediately, check in particular whether you still need the following data:

  • Website files
  • WordPress or other CMS installations
  • Databases
  • Email messages and mailboxes
  • Configuration files
  • further data stored within the hosting account

If you will need the data later, you should back it up separately before sending or taking effect of the cancellation.

At the end of the term #

With this option, the service remains active until the end of the already paid period. After that, it will not be continued.

For example, this gives you time with a hosting package to move a website, download required files, back up emails, or migrate other services to a new environment.

You still shouldn't push the remaining time to the last moment. Especially with a website or email migration, it makes sense to complete the necessary work well before the final end of the hosting.

Canceling your hosting does not cancel your domain #

Particularly important: Canceling a hosting package cancels an associated domain not automatically. Hosting and domain are separate services and are managed independently of each other.

This is important because you might still need your domain even though your previous hosting is ending. For example, you can connect a domain to a different hosting provider or transfer it to another provider.

If you no longer need the domain either, you must check its renewal or further administration separately.

We explain how to manage the automatic renewal of a domain in the guide Enable or disable automatic domain renewal.

Keep domain and cancel hosting only #

You can cancel your hosting with CURIAWEB and still keep your domain. Both services are technically and administratively separated from each other.

If you want to run your website with a different provider in the future, the domain can either continue to be managed by CURIAWEB and connected to the new hosting via the appropriate DNS settings, or transferred to another provider.

Depending on the domain extension, you need a transfer or auth code for a domain transfer. You can find the procedure in the instructions. Request transfer code (Auth-Code) for a domain.

Back up data before termination #

Before canceling a hosting package, you should check whether you need your own copy of important data. This is especially true in the case of an immediate cancellation.

Although CURIAWEB creates automatic daily backups of hosting data and keeps them for 30 days, you should not use these backups as a substitute for your own data backup if you intentionally cancel a service and still need its content later.

We explain how automatic backups work in CURIAWEB in the manual Daily backups at CURIAWEB: How your data is secured.

Check the correct service before canceling #

If several hosting packages or other services are present in your customer account, check carefully which product you have selected before submitting.

Pay special attention to the corresponding domain or product name. This will help you avoid accidentally scheduling the wrong service for cancellation.

Then check again whether you „Immediately“ or „At the end of the term“ you have chosen and whether this selection actually corresponds to your intent.

What to do if you are unsure about your termination? #

If you are not sure what the consequences of canceling a specific service will be, you should not simply submit the cancellation on a whim.

This applies in particular when multiple domains, websites, or email services are connected to each other, or you do not know which data depends on the hosting package in question.

In this case, before terminating the contract, you can Create a support ticket in the CURIAWEB customer center and specify the service in question.
